An Interesting Predicament
So this morning I had a little bit of fun with breakfast...fun that I could only have in the Netherlands, of course. =P So I got up at like...11ish? Yeah, 11ish. I went downstairs and decided to have something to eat, as people who have just gotten up are wont to do. What did Lizz decide to eat, you might ask? The answer is Cruesli. It's like granola, don't ask. ANYWAY! So I poured myself some cruesli (Cruesli? Brand name yes/no? I think yes. So Cruesli.) into a bowl, got myself a spoon, and went for some milk. But OHZ NOEZ, there were two kinds. In a blue carton was something called halfvolle melk, and in a red carton there was karne melk. Now, I believe I explained yesterday the system of Things That Come In A Carton (hereafter referred to as TTCIAC). An understanding of this system leads one to believe that the karne melk in the red container is, in fact, buttermilk, and that the blue container holds regular milk. BUT WAIT! The karne melk has a lower fat content than the halfvolle melk...doesn't buttermilk have a lot of fat? This is something I could not answer myself at 11 in the morning because A) it was 11 AM and B) I didn't know in the first place. What I really wanted was some skim milk to put on this delicious Cruesli, so using my logic I should use the one with the lower fat content and it would taste more like skim. But, being the intelligent girl that I am, with amazing powers of logic and deduction at my disposal, I smelled the cartons instead. Alas, the halfvolle melk smelled more like milk that I wanted on my cereal. And there you have it. The halfvolle melk in the blue carton(blue container=regular milk if one goes by the TTCIAC system, remember) went on my cereal, and it was a very good breakfast. Heh!

Hey Liz,
just to let you know, Cruesli is the dutch name for granola. I't crusty musli, get it? In dutch crusty is krokant, so combined with the good spelling it becomes Cruesli. But there are all different kinds of brands and sorts!
See you around!

I'm a Canadian in her first week in Delft, and I just poured karnemelk all over my cruesli. The karnemelk was sour. Then I found your blog as I googled "karnemelk" to try to find out what the hell it actually was.
